Vintage 1950s Louis XVI Style Cut Clear Glass and Gilt Metal Table Lamp with Gathered Fabric Shade

Clear cut glass catches the light even when the lamp is off. On a dressing table or a nightstand, this little lamp sparkles all day and glows softly at night.

The lamp stands on a round gilt base with a gadrooned dome and beaded rims. The stem is built up of two cut-glass sections: a faceted, six-sided disc low down, and a tall, many-sided column above it, joined by beaded gilt collars. It comes with a domed fabric shade in a soft apricot tone, panelled with seams and gathered into a ruffled crown at the top. Glassmakers have long added lead to their mix to make "crystal". The lead makes the glass heavier and softer to cut, and bends the light more strongly, which gives the extra sparkle.

The lamp is in very good vintage condition, with an old label still on the glass. It has been well cared for since the 1950s and is ready for a new bedside or dressing table. Set it on a nightstand, a vanity or a small side table.
