Vintage 1960s–70s Louis XVI Style Brass-Tone Fluted Column Table Lamp Base, Weighted
Tall, plain and well balanced, a fluted column like this suits almost any shade and any room, from a library desk to a modern side table.
The lamp rises from a round, stepped base to a short turned foot and a gadrooned collar. Above that, a long column is fluted from top to bottom. A ringed capital and a flat drip pan at the top carry a bulb holder with a turn-key switch. The base is weighted. Lamp makers often fill the hollow foot with plaster, sand or a steel plate so that a tall, slender column stays steady under a heavy shade and doesn't tip when the cord is pulled.
The lamp is in good vintage condition, with signs of use to the finish. It's in working order and ready for a new desk or side table. Set it on a desk, a console or beside a reading chair, with a shade of your choice.
