Vintage 1970s Pair of Silver-Tone Recumbent Ibex Sculptures with Gold-Tone Horns
Two polished silver-tone ibex rest with their legs tucked beneath them, heads raised and turned slightly toward each other, each crowned with a pair of tall ridged horns in gold tone. They make a glamorous 1970s pairing for a mantel, a bookshelf or either end of a console.
Each figure is cast in smooth, highly polished silver-tone metal, its body simplified into soft, rounded planes. The long horns sweep up and back in deep ridges, and they're picked out in gold tone, as are the eyes and the small hooves. The bases are lined with felt to protect furniture. The ridges on the horns aren't just decoration. A real ibex adds a raised knot to each horn every year, so the rings can be counted to tell an animal's age, much like the rings of a tree.
The pair is in very good vintage condition, with a bright finish and intact felt bases. They're ready to stand guard on a shelf or mantel for many years. Set them facing each other at either end of a mantel, flank a stack of books, or group them on a coffee table.
