Vintage Art Deco Desk Lamp, Chrome-Tone and Copper-Tone Metal with Tilting Saucer Shade, Machine Age Style

Polished chrome and warm copper meet in a wide saucer-shaped shade, topped with a small copper ball. On a desk, it looks like something from a 1930s ocean liner.

The lamp has a wide, conical shade in chrome-tone metal, with a copper-tone rim and a stepped top crowned by a copper-tone ball. The shade tilts, so the light can be aimed where it's needed. It sits on a tapering chrome-tone stem ringed with copper-tone bands, above a round stepped copper-tone base. In the 1930s, designers borrowed smooth curves and polished metal from aeroplanes, cars and ships. This look, often called Machine Age or Streamline style, made everyday objects look fast and modern.

The lamp is in good vintage condition. It reaches us for a full rewire in our workshop before dispatch. It has had careful owners before us, and we hope it has more. It suits a desk, a bureau or a bedside table.

The essentials: an Art Deco desk lamp in chrome-tone and copper-tone metal, with a tilting saucer shade and a stepped base.
