Vintage Art Deco Style Pair of Animal FiguresBellowing Stag and Grazing Doe, Gilt Metal on Green Terraces, 9.5 cm

Every autumn, the forests of France echo with le brame, the deep, roaring call of red deer stags during the rutting season. People travel to woodland edges at dusk just to hear it. For artists, the stag with its head thrown back in mid-call became an enduring image of wild nature, often paired with a quiet, grazing doe.

This pair of figures captures exactly that scene. The stag stands with his neck stretched upward, mouth open and antlers swept back, in the pose of the autumn call. The doe stands peacefully beside him with her head lowered to graze. Each is modelled in fine detail, with textured coats and alert features, and finished in a warm gilt tone. They stand on low, rugged bases painted green. Sculptors call a base like this a terrasse, a terrace, because it is shaped to suggest the ground beneath the animal’s feet.

The figures are in good condition, with a warm gilt finish. Their slim profile makes them easy to place on a narrow shelf or mantel, and they make a lovely gift for anyone who loves woodland and wildlife.

In short, this is a vintage Art Deco style pair of animal figures, a bellowing stag and a grazing doe, in gilt metal on green-painted terraces. The stag is 9.5 cm tall, and they are exactly as pictured.
