Vintage Asian Style Patinated Metal Baluster Vase with Bird and Blossom Branch in Relief

A bird swoops down past a flowering branch, wings spread and tail streaming behind it, raised from the dark surface of this vase. The scene wraps around the side like a painting cast in metal.

The vase is a baluster shape in patinated metal, with a deep brown tone. In high relief, a flowering branch curves across the body, with clusters of blossom, and a long-tailed bird flies just above it, with grasses below. A band of overlapping lappets edges the neck. Pairing birds with flowering branches is one of the oldest themes in Chinese and Japanese art, known as "bird and flower" painting. Blossom that opens in late winter, before the leaves, was a symbol of strength and new beginnings.

The vase is in very good vintage condition, with an even, deep patina. It has been well looked after, and it's ready to be enjoyed again. Use it for a branch of blossom or dried grasses, or let it stand alone on a shelf, a mantelpiece or a side table.

Vase summary: a patinated metal baluster vase with a bird and flowering branch in high relief and a lappet band at the neck.
