Vintage Bouillotte-Style Two-Light Gilt Metal Lamp with Louis XV Base and Burgundy Tôle Shade

A deep burgundy shade with a gold border sits over two candle lights, giving this desk lamp a warm, rich glow and a touch of old French style.

The lamp stands on a round base cast with scrolls and leaves, raised on small scrolled feet. A leaf-wrapped stem rises to two scrolled leafy arms, each holding a candle cup and sleeve. A square rod with a lifting ring runs up through the oval shade, which is painted burgundy outside, cream inside, and edged with a hand-painted-style gold frieze of leaves. A small thumbscrew sets the shade's height. Look closely and the burgundy lacquer shows a fine web of cracks, called crazing. It forms over decades as the metal shade and its paint expand and shrink at different rates with the heat of the lamp.

The lamp is in very good vintage condition, with fine crazing and a small chip on the shade's lower edge. It has been well kept and is ready for a new desk or side table. Set it on a writing desk, a library table or a bedside table.
