Vintage Dolphin Centerpiece Bowl, Silver-Tone Metal Fruit Stand on Three Sculptural Dolphins, Lobed Bowl, 24 cm
Since the Renaissance, European artists have loved the stylized dolphin. It appears on fountains, palace gates and silver, always in the same striking form: a large head, a scaly body and a tail curling upward. To sailors it was a sign of safe passage, and to designers it was a lively way to bring the sea into a room.
This centerpiece shows that classic figure three times over. Three dolphins stand on their heads in a ring, their scaly bodies twisting upward and their tails supporting a wide lobed bowl. The scales, fins and expressive faces are all modelled in detail. Seen together, the three bodies form a tripod, which gives the piece both strength and movement. The bright silver-tone bowl curves outward in soft lobes, giving the whole piece a generous, sculptural presence.
The centerpiece shows natural signs of age and use, with small surface marks, some patina and light wear. It is solid and heavy, weighing about 2.4 kg. It makes a striking focal point on a dining table or sideboard, piled with fruit or simply standing on its own.
In short, this is a vintage centerpiece in silver-tone metal, with a lobed bowl on a base of three sculptural dolphins. It is 24 cm tall and exactly as pictured.
