Vintage Empire Style Bouillotte Lamp, Two-Light Brass-Tone Lamp with Adjustable Burgundy Painted Tôle Shade

A deep burgundy shade hovers over two candle-style lights, set on a slim rod and fixed with a small arrow-shaped screw. Slide the shade up or down, and the light falls just where you want it on a desk.

The lamp has a round dished base with a beaded rim and a fluted central column, both in brass-tone metal. Two curved arms hold cream candle sleeves. Above them, an oval shade in burgundy painted tôle slides on the central rod and is held in place by a thumbscrew shaped like an arrow. The name "bouillotte" comes from an 18th-century French card game played late into the night by candlelight. The lamp's adjustable shade let players keep the glare out of their eyes while lighting the cards on the table.

The lamp is in good vintage condition, with crazing and small paint losses to the shade. It reaches us in working order, and it will be fully rewired in our workshop before dispatch. Kept with care so far, it's ready to light another desk. It suits a writing desk, a library table or a side table beside a reading chair.

Lamp summary: a two-light brass-tone bouillotte lamp with an adjustable burgundy painted tôle shade, an arrow thumbscrew and a dished base.
