Vintage Empire Style Emerald Green Ceramic Urn Lamp Base with Gilt Eagle, Laurel Wreath and Palmette Handles

A gilt eagle spreads its wings on deep emerald green, framed in a wreath of laurel. With its imperial emblems and handles shaped like classical ornament, it's a strong choice for a study or library.

The lamp base is shaped as a classical urn in emerald green glazed ceramic, with a flared white neck and gilt bands. On the front, a gilt eagle with outspread wings grips a bundle of thunderbolts, inside a laurel wreath. The neck has gilt palmettes and leafy scrolls. Two white handles shaped as upright palmettes, picked out in gilt, rise from the shoulders. The eagle holding thunderbolts was the emblem of Jupiter, king of the Roman gods. Napoleon chose it as his imperial symbol in 1804, borrowing it from the standards of the Roman legions.

The lamp base is in very good vintage condition, with bright gilding. It reaches us in working order, and it will be fully rewired in our workshop before dispatch. Kept with care so far, it's ready to be kept with care again. It suits a desk, a library shelf or a hallway console.
