Vintage Empire Style Silver-Tone Candlestick Lamp Base, Palmette Collar and Guilloché Round Base

Shaped like a classic Empire candlestick, this slim silver-tone lamp rises from a round base. A crown of palmettes wraps its foot.

The lamp base is silver-tone metal. A smooth, tapering shaft rises from a collar of upright palmettes, up to a top collar with a crisscross pattern and a candle-style nozzle. It stands on a round base bordered with the same crisscross band. A fine crisscross or wavy pattern like this is called guilloché. Traditionally it was cut by a machine called a rose engine, and it was used on watches, boxes and silver to catch the light in a shimmering net.

The lamp base is in good vintage condition, with wear and some oxidation to the silver-tone finish. It reaches us for a full rewire in our workshop before dispatch. It has been looked after for many years, and it's ready for its next home. It suits a bedside table, a desk or a side table.
