Vintage Empire Style Silver-Tone Column Candlestick with Leaf Capital, Urn Cup and Beaded Round Base

This candlestick is shaped like a small classical column, crowned with carved leaves and topped by an urn-shaped candle cup. The worn silver tone gives it a soft, lived-in glow.

The candlestick is made of silver-tone metal. A round shaft ringed with bands rises from a square block on a stepped round base with beaded borders. At the top is a capital of upright leaves under a square slab, then a knopped stem and an urn-shaped candle cup. The capital is the decorated top of a column. Empire designers copied Greek, Roman and Egyptian columns for candlesticks, so each one stands like a tiny piece of temple architecture.

The candlestick is in good vintage condition, with wear and some oxidation to the silver-tone finish, and a warm metal tone showing through in places. It has lit many dinners in other homes, and it's ready for more. It suits a mantelpiece, a dining table or a sideboard.
