Vintage Framed Equestrian Hunt Print, Riders and Deer in Woodland, Cream Mat and Dark Frame, 48 x 39 cm
Riders in red coats and black top hats charge toward a brook while their hounds race ahead. The scene is full of movement, with horses leaping, landing and pressing forward through the trees.
The print shows a fox hunt in open country. Riders on bay, black and grey horses clear a brook and a bank, with more of the field following behind and a hound at the water's edge. It's mounted under a cream mat with a linen-look inner border, in a dark wood-tone frame under glass. The red coats worn by hunt members are traditionally called "hunting pink". Scenes like this were a favourite subject of English sporting art in the 19th century, and they were printed and hung in country houses across Britain.
The print is in very good vintage condition, neatly framed. It has been hung with care, and it's ready to be hung again. It suits a study, a library, a hallway or a dining room.
