Vintage French Travel Barograph, Recording Barometer with Stacked Vidie Capsules and Gilt Drum, Glazed Wood Case, Desk Decor
Lift the glazed lid of this compact barograph and you’ll find a small piece of precision engineering. A stack of five ribbed, gilt Vidie capsules expands and contracts with every change in air pressure, moving a lever on a brass frame that would trace the week’s weather in ink onto a chart wrapped around the gold clockwork drum beside it. The mechanism sits on a black metal plate inside a wooden case, glazed on all sides so you can watch it work, and finished in a warm mahogany tone. This smaller travel model is neat enough for a desk or a bookshelf. It’s a fascinating conversation piece for a study, an office or a boat lover’s den.
Condition: Good Vintage Condition, with light wear to the case finish consistent with age.
