Vintage Hammered Brass-Tone Champagne Bucket with Lion Mask Ring Handles, Hollywood Regency Style
Covered all over in small hammer marks, this warm golden bucket catches the light from every side. A lion mask holding a ring guards each handle.
The bucket is brass-tone metal with a hammered finish, tapering slightly from a plain rim to a flat base. On each side, a cast lion mask holds a loose ring handle. Hammering metal like this is called planishing. The metalworker strikes the sheet over and over with a rounded hammer, and each blow hardens the metal slightly. So a hammered bucket ends up stiffer than a smooth one of the same thickness, as well as more lively to look at.
The bucket is in very good vintage condition, with a natural patina. It has seen many celebrations, and it's ready for the next. Use it for champagne or white wine on a bar cart or a dinner table, or as a cachepot for a plant.
