Vintage Horse Table Lamp BaseAttributed 1970s, Gold-Tone Saddled Horse on Black Lacquered Scroll-End Wooden Stand, Adjustable Height

For centuries, Chinese collectors displayed their finest jades and porcelains on carved wooden stands, often lacquered black, with low, rolled scroll ends. In the 1970s, European decorators loved to borrow that Asian form and pair it with Western subjects, combining glossy black lacquer with polished gold-tone metal. The look was glamorous and eclectic, and it suited the period’s taste for rich, theatrical interiors.

This table lamp base draws on that pairing. A horse stands in gold-tone metal on a long, glossy black lacquered wooden stand whose ends roll under in scrolls, in the manner of a Chinese display stand. The horse is saddled and ready, with a modelled saddle, girth and a single stirrup hanging at its side. Its mane, tail and the muscles of its neck and legs are crisply detailed. Behind it, a slim brass-tone rod rises to the bulb holder. A tightening screw on the rod lets you raise or lower the light to suit the shade you choose.

The lamp base is in good vintage condition, with its lacquered stand intact and old labels still underneath. Like every lamp we sell, it is checked in our workshop before it is sent, so it arrives ready to use. With a shade of your choice, it makes a handsome lamp for a study, a library or a horse lover’s home.

In short, this is a vintage horse table lamp base, attributed to the 1970s, with a gold-tone saddled horse on a black lacquered scroll-end wooden stand and an adjustable-height light. It is sold without a shade and exactly as pictured.
