Vintage Japonisme Style Brass-Tone Tray with Pagoda, Torii Gate and Bridge Scenes, Floral Centre
Little scenes of temples, gates, bridges and trees run all the way around the rim of this small tray. They frame a centre packed with flowers and feather-like scrolls.
The tray is rectangular, in brass-tone metal, with a tab handle at each end. The raised rim is decorated in relief with landscape scenes, including a pagoda, a torii gate, an arched bridge, houses and trees. The flat centre is covered in flowers and feathered scrolls around a plain cartouche. The torii is the gate that marks the entrance to a Japanese Shinto shrine. Two upright posts with two crossbars mark the step from the everyday world into a sacred place.
The tray is in very good vintage condition. It has been well kept, and it's ready to be used again. It suits a dressing table for jewelry, a desk for pens, or a hall table for keys and post.
