Vintage Lidded Bowl, Attributed 1920s–30s, Gold-Tone Metal with Pine-Cone Finial and Fluted Silver-Tone Foot, 21.5 cm
A lidded bowl has always been a small luxury on the table. The lid keeps its contents fresh and hidden until the moment it is lifted, which adds a little ceremony to serving. European makers gave these pieces handsome finials and decorated borders, so they looked good whether open or closed.
This bowl is attributed to the 1920s–30s. A round, gold-tone bowl sits on a fluted silver-tone foot, and a domed lid rests on a wide rim with a raised patterned border. The lid is topped by a pine-cone finial on a collar of leaves. The pine cone is a classical symbol of abundance and long life, which is why it so often crowns lids and covers. The contrast of the warm gold-tone body and the silver-tone foot and rim gives the piece a rich, layered look.
The bowl is well preserved for its age, with a soft patina across the surface. It looks its best on a dining table, buffet or shelf, and it makes a good home for wrapped sweets or small keepsakes.
In short, this is a vintage lidded bowl in gold-tone and silver-tone metal, with a pine-cone finial and a fluted foot. It is attributed to the 1920s–30s and is exactly as pictured.
