Vintage Louis XVI Style Cut Glass Decanter with Silver-Tone Neck Mount and Ball Stopper, Crossed Ribbon Bands
A tall silver-tone collar rises from a clear cut glass body and ends in a round stopper. The polished metal and bright glass sit well on a dinner table or a drinks tray.
The decanter has a heavy clear glass body, cut with tall vertical panels and a star cut into the base. The neck is a tapering silver-tone metal mount, finished at the shoulder and on the ball stopper with bands of crossed ribbons tied around a reed. The crossed ribbon band is a classic Louis XVI ornament, borrowed from the ribbons used to tie bundles of reeds in ancient design. French silversmiths used it widely on table silver from the late 18th century onward.
The decanter is in very good vintage condition. It has been kept with care, and it deserves the same in its next home. Use it for wine, water or spirits on a dining table, a sideboard or a bar cart.
