Vintage Louis XVI Style Silver-Tone Candlestick Lamp with Ribbon Garlands and Embroidered White Shade
A soft white shade embroidered with flowers sits on a slim silver-tone candlestick hung with garlands and ribbons. It's a gentle, romantic little lamp for a bedroom, a guest room or a dressing table.
The base is a candlestick in silver-tone metal. It stands on a canted, stepped square foot and rises through a tapering shaft decorated with flower garlands, hanging leaves and tied ribbons to a turned candle cup. It has been made into a lamp and carries a recently made gathered shade of white fabric. The shade has a scalloped hem and a rolled top band printed with red flowers. The white embroidery on the shade is in the Cornely style, named after the chain-stitch embroidery machines first made in France in the 19th century. They could trace flowing lines of stitching in one continuous thread.
The lamp is in good vintage condition. The silver-tone finish has light oxidation at the neck and around the base of the candle cup, which may be an old repair. The shade is recent and clean. It will be fully rewired in our workshop and is ready for a long new life beside a bed. Set it on a nightstand, a dressing table or a small writing desk.
