Vintage Pair of 1950s–60s French Wall Sconces with Folded White Acrylic Shades and Copper-Tone Clips

Folded like a sheet of paper and lit from behind, these shades turn a plain wall into a soft, glowing shape. That light, playful look was a favourite in French homes of the 1950s and 1960s.

Each sconce has a curved shade of frosted white acrylic with pointed corners that lift at the top like wings. The surface is scored with fine crossing lines and dotted with small copper-toned studs. Two ribbed copper-toned clips hold the shade to its wall bracket. When the light is on, the scored lines glow brighter than the rest. Light travels inside the acrylic and escapes wherever the surface has been cut, so every line lights up.

The sconces are in good vintage condition. One bulb holder is missing and the old wiring reaches us as found. They have been kept together as a pair and are ready to light a new room. Hang them either side of a bed, in a hallway or above a dresser.
