Vintage Pair of 1950s Brass-Tone Wall Sconces with Clear Teardrop-Pattern Glass Shades and Pull Cords
Beside a bed or a reading chair, a light with its own pull cord saves a trip across the room. These two from the 1950s each have one.
Each sconce has a narrow brass-toned back bar holding a turned stem, with rings and swellings that rise to a round cup. In the cup sits a clear glass shade, bulbous at the base and flaring at the rim, moulded all over with rows of hanging teardrops. A short pull cord hangs below to switch it on and off. The stem's rings and curves were shaped on a lathe, where the metal spins against a cutting tool. This was a quick way to give a simple rod a carved, classical look.
The sconces are in very good vintage condition, with light tarnish on the brass-toned metal. The old wiring reaches us as found. They have been kept together as a pair since the 1950s and are ready for a new wall. Hang them either side of a bed, a sofa or a mirror.
