Vintage Pair of 1960s–70s French Silver-Tone Wall Sconces with Textured "Sugar" Acrylic Shades

When these lights are switched on, the shades sparkle like frost on a window. It's a small, cheerful effect that made shades like these popular in French homes of the 1960s and 1970s.

Each sconce has a round silver-toned wall plate with a petal-shaped edge and a short straight arm. The arm holds a ribbed silver-toned cylinder, which drops into a round shade of clear, heavily textured acrylic, fixed with small side studs. Collectors often call this crunchy surface "sugar", because when lit it glitters like crystallised sugar or crushed ice. Each tiny bump catches and scatters the light.

The sconces are in very good vintage condition, and the old wiring reaches us as found. They have been kept together as a pair and are ready for a new wall. Hang them either side of a bed, in a bathroom or in a hallway.
