Vintage Pair of Brass-Tone Single-Arm Wall Sconces with Tall Iridescent Hurricane Glass Shades

A tall glass shade around a single light gives a wall the look of candlelight behind glass, the way it was lit long before electricity.

Each sconce has a slim, fluted brass-toned back plate with a pointed finial at the top and a turned drop below. A short pierced scroll arm holds a cup, and in the cup stands a tall glass shade that flares open at the top. The glass has a soft amber tint with flashes of blue, and a frosted band of arabesque patterns runs near the base. Tall shades like this are often called hurricane shades, because they were first made to shield candle flames from draughts and gusts of wind.

The sconces are in very good vintage condition, and the old wiring reaches us as found. They have been kept together as a pair and are ready for a new home. Hang them either side of a fireplace, a mirror or a doorway.
