Vintage Pair of Classical Style Antique Gold Finish Two-Arm Wall Sconces with Acanthus Arms

A dark gold finish sits well against wood panelling, deep-coloured walls and old furniture. This pair was made for rooms in that warmer, richer key.

Each sconce has a central column built up from ribbed cups, a square block with a small rosette, and a ribbed knop at the base. Two arms curl out from the block, each shaped as a large acanthus scroll, and each holds a ribbed cup and a cream candle sleeve. A hook on the back makes them easy to hang. The gold has a warm, reddish undertone in places. On gilded pieces, that warmth often comes from bole, a fine red clay laid under the gold to give it depth.

The sconces are in very good vintage condition, and the old wiring reaches us as found. They have been kept together as a pair and are ready for a new wall. They suit a hallway, a study or a room with dark or classic furniture.
