Vintage Pair of Empire Style Silver-Tone Tripod Candlesticks, Fluted Columns, Lion Paw Feet and Classical Heads

Each candlestick stands on three slim lion legs, like a small ancient altar carrying a flame. Hung with garlands and topped with petalled cups, the pair brings a classical touch to a table.

Each candlestick is made of silver-tone metal. A fluted column is hung with a small floral garland and topped by a candle cup with a petal-shaped rim. At the base, the column ends in a rounded knop set with three classical heads wearing headdresses, above three curving legs ending in lion paws. A three-legged stand with lion paw feet is called an athénienne. It was inspired by ancient Roman bronze tripods, and French designers revived it in the Louis XVI and Empire periods for candlesticks, stands and burners.

The candlesticks are in very good vintage condition. Others have looked after them well, and they're ready to be enjoyed again. Use them on a dining table, a mantelpiece or a console.
