Vintage Pair of French Louis XVI Style Gilt Metal Two-Arm Wall Sconces with Urn and Laurel Wreath

Plain enough for a modern room and classical enough for a period one, this pair takes the Louis XVI style and keeps it simple.

Each sconce has a central fluted urn with a small laurel wreath hanging on its front and a flame finial on top. Below the urn, a square block holds two leafy scrolled arms, each with a small cone-shaped knop at the joint. Each arm ends in a drip pan and a candle sleeve. A fluted cup with a pointed drop finishes the base. The soft, aged gold is a deliberate finish, often called "old gilt bronze". A darker wash is brushed over the gold and rubbed back from the high points, so the details stand out as if worn by time.

The sconces are in very good vintage condition, and the old wiring reaches us as found. They have been kept together as a pair and are ready for a new wall. Hang them either side of a fireplace, a bed or a mirror.
