Vintage Pair of Georgian Style Silver-Tone Candlesticks with Gadrooned Borders and Tapering Stems

Rows of small rounded ribs edge every part of these candlesticks, from the drip pans down to the round bases. On a table set for dinner, the pair gives a clean, classic shine.

Each candlestick is silver-tone metal, with a tapering stem between two ribbed collars, a straight candle cup and a round drip pan at the top. It stands on a domed round base. Every edge is finished with a band of small rounded ribs. This border is called gadrooning, from an old French word for a fold or pleat. Silversmiths put it on rims and bases because the ribs stiffen the edge, hide small knocks and catch the light along every curve.

The candlesticks are in good vintage condition, with wear to the silver-tone finish, especially on the base edges. They have graced many tables, and they're ready for another. They suit a dining table, a mantelpiece or a sideboard.

Set summary: a pair of Georgian style silver-tone candlesticks with gadrooned borders, tapering stems and domed bases.
