In the 1970s, European lighting design turned bright and bold. Chrome and glass were the materials of the moment, and designers loved shapes that looked clean, modern and a little futuristic. German makers were especially known for wall lights that combined polished metal with richly textured glass.
This pair of wall sconces is attributed to the 1970s. Each has a sleek chrome-finish bracket that fixes to the wall and holds a tall, round shade of clear textured glass. This kind of glass is often called ice glass, because its surface is covered in uneven ridges that look like melting ice or frost on a window. Those ridges catch the light and scatter it, so the shades sparkle when switched on and shimmer even when off.
The sconces are in very good vintage condition. Like every lamp we sell, they are checked in our workshop before they are sent, so they arrive ready to use. They look their best as a pair, on either side of a bed, a mirror or a doorway.
