Vintage Pair of Louis XV Style Gilt Metal Two-Arm Wall Sconces with Deep Drip Pans

Short and sturdy, this pair fits the walls that taller sconces overwhelm: above a bedside table, beside a small mirror or in a narrow hallway.

Each sconce has a stem built up from a square base, a shield with an oval medallion framed in leaves, and a ribbed, flame-like finial on top. Two short scrolled arms branch out from the base, and each holds a deep, wide drip pan and a cream candle sleeve. In French, each light on a sconce is called a "feu", meaning a fire. So a two-arm sconce like this is "à deux feux", a name left over from the days when every arm held a real flame.

The sconces are in very good vintage condition, and the old wiring reaches us as found. They have been kept together as a pair and are ready to go up again. Hang them either side of a bed, a fireplace or a doorway.

Pair at a glance: two gilt metal two-arm sconces with a medallion stem, a ribbed finial and deep drip pans, rewired and sold as a pair.
