Vintage Pair of Louis XVI Style Gilt Metal Two-Arm Wall Sconces, Torch Back Plates with Rosettes and Swan-Neck Arms

A slim torch with a carved flame rises up the centre of each sconce, and two smooth curved arms reach out from a round rosette. The lines are simple, light and classical.

Each sconce has a tapering back plate in gilt metal, shaped like a torch, with a flame finial at the top and a small pointed drop below. A round rosette sits where the two arms join. The arms curve out and up to round drip pans with cream candle sleeves. Arms that curve like this are often called swan-neck arms, after the long S-curve of a swan's neck. The shape was much loved by French designers of the late 18th and early 19th centuries.

The sconces are in good vintage condition. One arm reaches us loose and some parts are bent, and both are put right in our workshop. They are also fully rewired before dispatch. They've seen good use, and they're ready to be enjoyed again. Hang them either side of a mirror, a bed or a fireplace.
