Vintage Pair of Table Lamps, Attributed 1960s–70s, Navy Blue Columns on Chrome and White Marble Bases, Sold Without Shades
In the late 1960s and 1970s, many European designers looked back to the classical column and remade it with modern materials. Polished chrome took the place of gilding, coloured lacquer replaced painted wood, and marble kept its old sense of luxury. The result was a clean, crisp version of classical elegance that suited both modern flats and traditional rooms.
This pair of table lamps is attributed to the 1960s–70s and shows that approach. Each one stands on a square block of white marble, from which a polished chrome trumpet flares up to support a slim square column in navy blue. Brass-tone collars frame the top and bottom of the column, and a brass-tone bulb holder sits on top. Each bulb holder has a small built-in turn switch, a feature common on European lamps of the period, which lets you switch the lamp on and off right at the bulb.
The lamps are in good condition. One currently stands slightly taller than the other, and our workshop will set them to a matching height before dispatch. With a pair of shades of your choice, they will balance a sideboard, a pair of nightstands or a desk.
