Vintage Silver-Mounted Seashell Duck Sculpture, Large Shell Body with Chased Feather Head and Red Glass Eyes, Desk Decor
A smooth, glossy seashell forms the round body of this little duck, its creamy surface warming to apricot and flecked with natural rust-brown markings, with the shell’s spiral curled neatly at the side. Rising from it, a silver head and long neck are chased with every feather, finished with a sleek beak and bright red glass eyes that give it a wonderfully alert, slightly comic expression. Silver webbed feet keep it standing steady. This pairing of real shells with fine silver mounts was popularised by Florentine designers in the 1970s and 80s, and it brings a touch of playful glamour to a coffee table, a bookshelf or a guest bathroom.
Condition: Very Good Vintage Condition, with natural markings to the shell and light wear to the silver mounts, as pictured.
