Vintage Single Louis XVI Style Gilt Metal Wall Sconce with Ribbon BowFlowers and Tassels

Sometimes one sconce is all a wall needs: beside a narrow doorway, above a small desk, or next to a single bed.

This sconce hangs from a gilt ribbon bow at the top, with its tails flowing down. The ribbon runs down a slim rod, tied in the middle with a knot of leaves and small flowers, and ends below in two hanging tassels. A single curved arm loops out and up to a ribbed cup holding a candle sleeve. The tassels, ribbons and knots all copy passementerie, the decorative silk trimmings that edged curtains and chairs in 18th-century France. Louis XVI metalworkers liked to make bronze look as soft as fabric.

The sconce is in very good vintage condition, and the old wiring reaches us as found. It has come through the years in one piece and is ready for a new wall. Hang it beside a bed, a doorway or a small mirror.

Single sconce in brief: one gilt metal Louis XVI style sconce with a ribbon bow, a flower knot and tassels, rewired and sold individually.
