Vintage Small Bouillotte Two-Light Brass-Tone Table Lamp with Oval Green Tôle Shade

On a nightstand or the corner of a desk, this small lamp gives a low, focused light and looks just as good switched off.

The lamp stands on an oval dished base with a moulded rim, painted dark green inside, with a small curved handle at the back. Two turned candle cups hold candle sleeves on either side of a square brass-toned rod. The rod runs up through an oval green shade, banded in gold with a twisting leaf border. A thumbscrew sets the shade's height, and a ring at the top lets you lift the lamp. Bouillotte lamps were first made for real candles. As the candles burned down through the evening, the shade was lowered to keep the light at the level of the table.

The lamp is in good vintage condition, with fine crazing on the shade and stained candle sleeves. It has seen years of use and is ready for a new bedside or desk. Set it on a nightstand, a writing desk or a hall table.

Compact bouillotte: a small two-light bouillotte lamp with a brass-tone dished base and an adjustable oval green and gold tôle shade, rewired and ready to use.
