Vintage Two-Light Bouillotte Table LampGreen Tole Shade, Baluster Stem and Scalloped Metal Base

Lamps like this were once set in the middle of the table for evening card games, their low shades keeping the light on the cards and out of the players' eyes.

The lamp stands on a round stepped base with a scalloped edge, rising through a turned baluster stem to two angular candle arms. Each arm holds a candle cup and a sleeve. A square rod runs up through a dark green oval shade with a gilt rim. A small thumbscrew sets the shade's height, so you can raise or lower the light. The name "bouillotte" comes from a French card game of the 1700s. Players gathered around a table lit by a lamp very like this one, and the lamp took its name from the game.

The lamp is in very good vintage condition, with a few small paint chips on the shade. It has been well kept and is ready for a new desk or side table. Set it on a writing desk, a games table or a bedside table.
