Vintage Wall Sconce with Black Perforated Metal ConeAttributed 1950s, Gilt Metal Bracket, 25 cm

In the 1950s, European designers discovered the beauty of perforated metal. Sheets of steel punched with rows of small holes were bent into shades, trays and chairs, giving everyday objects a light, airy look. In lighting, the holes did something special: they let the light escape in tiny points, scattering a soft pattern across the wall.

This wall sconce is attributed to the 1950s and shows that idea at its best. A tall, narrow gilt metal plate fixes to the wall. A slim gilt tube rises along it, held by two round collars, then bends down and out in a U-shape to carry a black cone shade. The cone is made of perforated metal: metal sheet punched with many small round holes, which lets light glow through the surface while still directing most of it out of the open end. The contrast of black and gold gives the sconce a crisp, graphic look.

The sconce is in good condition. Like every lamp we sell, it is checked in our workshop before it is sent, so it arrives ready to use, with a bulb supplied. It makes a striking reading light beside a bed or an armchair, or an accent on a hallway wall.

In short, this is a vintage wall sconce with a black perforated metal cone on a gilt metal bracket, attributed to the 1950s. The bracket is 25 cm tall, and the sconce is exactly as pictured.
