Vintage Wooden Box with Figured Wood Interior, Brass Piano Hinge and Removable Dividers
Open the lid of this wooden box and the inside glows with pale, rippling wood, divided into neat compartments. It's ready to sort cards, tea bags, jewelry or keepsakes.
The box has a hinged lid on a long brass piano hinge. Inside, the lid and the body are lined with pale figured wood that shows a rippling flame pattern. Five thin wooden dividers split the interior into six compartments, and they lift out to leave one open space. The rippling pattern, called flame figure, appears where the grain grows in waves. As you move the box, the light shifts across the ripples, so the wood seems to shimmer.
The box is in very good vintage condition. It has been looked after for years, and it's ready for a new owner. It suits a desk for cards and stamps, a kitchen shelf for tea, or a dressing table for jewelry.
