Antique 19th Century Black Forest Carved Wood Stag Desk StandBellowing Deer with Pen Tray and Inkwell Stump, As Found

Head thrown back and mouth open, this stag is caught mid-bellow, calling across the forest in the rutting season. He’s carved by hand from a single block of wood in the Black Forest tradition, his coat cut into thousands of fine, rippling strokes, with glass eyes and a soft, expressive muzzle. He stands on a mossy forest floor between a hollow fallen log, which forms a pen tray, and a gnarled tree stump that once held an inkwell, once the centrepiece of a 19th-century writing desk. The wood has a warm, honeyed patina, darker in the recesses. Offered as found, with its antlers missing and a crack through the base, it remains a characterful piece of alpine carving for a collector, a hunting lodge or a cabin shelf.

Condition: Good Antique Condition. The antlers are missing, leaving two empty sockets on the head. There are small cracks to the base.
