Antique 19th Century Gilt Bronze Wall Sconce, Neoclassical Urn with Female Mask, Acanthus Plume and Rosette Scroll Arms
A serene female face, her hair parted and falling in braids on either side, looks out from the shoulder of a tall classical urn on this sconce. Above her, a slender plume of acanthus leaves rises like a flame. Below, the urn is fluted and finished with a turned drop. Two slim arms sweep out from beneath the mask in wide, graceful curves, each with a small curled tendril ending in a cast rosette, and rise into leafy cups with gadrooned rims holding candle sleeves. The gilding has a warm, mellow glow softened by age. It’s an elegant, characterful piece for a hallway, a bedroom or beside a mirror.
