Antique 19th Century Louis XV Style Bronze Rocaille Table Mirror, Beveled Glass with Cherub, Roses and Pierced Scroll Crest
Swirling rocaille scrolls, shells and leaves tumble all around this little bevelled mirror, rising at the top into a pierced crest of lattice and curling acanthus. A plump cherub peeks out from the upper right corner, and small cast roses bloom at the sides and centre base. The cartouche-shaped glass has a crisp bevelled edge that catches the light. The frame stands on two sweeping scrolled feet, one ending in a tiny cast mask, so it sits upright on a dressing table without a stand. The bronze has a dark, time-softened patina with warmer gold on the high points. It’s a romantic, sculptural piece for a vanity, a boudoir or a mantel.
