Antique Animalier Bronze Moose Sculpture, Standing Bull with Broad Antlers, Dark Graphite Patina on Stone Base, circa 1890
A bull moose stands in calm, heavy-shouldered stride, head lowered and broad palmate antlers spreading wide above his long muzzle. The sculptor captured the great animal’s peculiar grace: the high humped shoulders, the shaggy ruff of the throat and the long, slender legs ending in neat cloven hooves. Every surface of the deep, graphite-dark patina catches the light along the muscles of the flank. He stands on a solid slab of dark green-veined stone, which sets off the bronze and gives the piece a satisfying weight. It’s a handsome, masculine sculpture for a study, a hunting lodge or a cabin mantel, and a fine gift for anyone who loves the northern wilds.
Condition: Good Antique Condition, with a deep, natural patina and light wear consistent with age, as pictured.
