This example, American, circa 1920s, follows the pattern closely. The arm rises in a single unbroken C-curve from a stepped, fluted rectangular base, terminating in an articulated socket joint that allows the light to be angled toward the work at hand. The base carries a raised fluted border along its edge — note how the flutes run only along the visible faces and stop cleanly at the corners, the kind of finishing detail that marks a lamp built for a proper desk rather than stamped out for volume.
