The bouillotte lamp takes its name and form from a French card game, its wide, shallow base originally designed to catch dripping wax from several candles set close together, and its shade built to slide up or down a central rod so players could keep the light out of their eyes. That practical design became a recognizable style in its own right, still reproduced long after candles gave way to electricity. This example follows the form closely: three faux candle sleeves rising from a round metal tray, a central rod climbing through an oval green tole shade banded in gilt, finished with a ring-form finial.

The lamp has a round, shallow metal base fitted with three faux candle sleeves, a central support rod rising through an oval green tole shade banded top and bottom in gilt. A punch mark is present on the base. The shade shows numerous small pit marks to the interior and areas of paint loss. The metal base has a visible deformation, and the rod is bent near the top. The piece shows overall wear and scratching consistent with genuine age and use, with the surface wear shown in the photographs.

This is offered as a single table lamp. The electrical system is recent and the lamp is in working order; bulbs are not included.
