Antique French Gilt Brass Aneroid Barometer, Square Empire Style Frame with Gilt Mask Corner Mounts and Ring Hanger, 1890s
A white barometer dial sits at the centre of this square gilt frame, its forecasts printed in French around the rim: “Tempête” (storm), “Pluie” (rain), “Variable”, “Beau Temps” (fair weather) and “Très Sec” (very dry). A small window at the heart of the dial reveals the brass mechanism inside. The frame steps inward in crisp, layered mouldings, with a small cast mask among leaves at each corner and a fine beaded edge running around the outside. A ring at the top lets it hang on the wall, and it also stands neatly on a desk. The gilding has a warm, mellow glow with gentle wear. It’s a handsome and still practical piece for a study, a hallway or a library, and a lovely gift for anyone who watches the weather.
Condition: Good Antique Condition, with wear and light scratches to the gilt frame, and small marks consistent with age, as pictured.
