Antique Leather Book Stack Table LampGilt-Tooled Bindings, Library Accent
Delivered free · US duties paid · Insured
Booksellers have long faced the same small problem: a fine leather binding whose pages are damaged, foxed, or missing, worth keeping for the cover alone. One old solution was to give the binding a second life as an object — a stack of such volumes, wired for a single bulb, became a lamp for the very room its books once furnished. The result reads less as a repurposed object than as a small joke about the library itself: light, literally, from books.

This lamp gathers three upright leather-bound volumes into a column, set on a fourth laid flat as the base. The spines carry gilt tooling typical of nineteenth-century binding work — raised bands, small floral tools stamped in gold, the kind of hand-finishing that separates a genuine tooled binding from a printed imitation; look closely at how the gilding sits slightly worn into the leather rather than sitting flat on top of it, and you can tell the tooling was pressed by hand rather than stamped by machine. A brass socket rises from the top volume, the only element added when the piece was converted into a lamp. The bindings show their years honestly, in scuffed corners and softened leather, while the gilt detail remains legible throughout.
The lamp is sold as shown, without a shade, so that you may choose one to suit your own room.
Whoever bound and rebound these volumes over the decades kept them well enough to reach this second life. Wear is light and consistent with age — scuffing to the leather corners, gentle softening at the spines — with no losses to the gilt tooling. It is ready for a desk, a library shelf, or a spot beside an armchair.
It arrives professionally packed and fully insured — we handle the paperwork and worldwide shipping, and we adapt the plug to your country free of charge; just let us know your location. Returns are accepted within 30 days.
