Antique Napoleon III Octagonal Jewelry Box with Mother of Pearl Flowers and Cut Steel StudsGilt Brass Frame on Ball Feet

Small flowers of carved mother-of-pearl bloom at the centre of each panel of this little octagonal box, ringed by faceted cut-steel studs shaped like stars and petals that once sparkled like tiny diamonds by candlelight. The glossy dark panels sit in a slim gilt brass frame, edged at the top and bottom with rows of beading. The stepped lid lifts with a small ball clasp, and the whole box stands on four openwork scroll feet ending in brass balls. Inside, it’s lined in satin. Boxes like this were made as pretty keepsakes and jewellery holders in Second Empire Paris. It’s just the right size for rings, earrings or a few treasured trinkets on a dressing table.

Condition: Good Antique Condition, with light wear and rust spotting to the cut steel, wear to the gilding, one mother-of-pearl element missing from the lid, and one small steel stud missing from a side, as pictured.
