Antique Style Desk Lampgilt bronze and Red Marble, Signed Mottled Glass Tulip Shade — French, Reims
Delivered free · US duties paid · Insured
In the France of the early twentieth century, the desk lamp became a marriage of two crafts: the bronzier, who made the mount, and the glasshouse, which blew the shade. The mounts looked backward — scrolling arms, laurel and acanthus in the Louis taste — while the shades looked forward, in the mottled, colour-saturated glass of the era. The arrangement had a practical genius: the bell-form tulip hangs mouth-down from a curved arm, pouring light onto the page while the glass glows like a lantern

The arrangement had a practical genius: the bell-form tulip hangs mouth-down from a curved arm, pouring light onto the page while the glass glows like a lantern above it.
This lamp is French, its scrolled arm and shaped base in gilt bronze cast with foliate ornament, husks, and beading in the Louis XVI taste, rising from a plinth of deep red mottled marble. The shade is the centrepiece: a bell-form tulip in mottled glass, vivid orange streaked with tortoiseshell darks and finishing in a violet-blue ruffled rim, signed by hand and marked Reims. Hold the shade to the light — the colour sits inside the glass in clouds, worked between layers while hot, not painted on the surface, which is how the good French houses of the period got that depth no coating reproduces. The shade tilts on its arm to direct the light. The lamp arrives with the appropriate plug or adapter fitted for your country, ready to use.
The glass carries one small flea-bite to the rim, noted plainly, and the marble has a small loss to its underside, tidied with a brass plate — neither visible in normal use, both stated so nothing surprises. Whoever wrote their letters under this lamp before you kept it carefully. It belongs on a desk, a writing table, or a hallway console.
The shade is signed art glass, the mount cast metal, the base solid marble. It arrives professionally packed and fully insured — worldwide shipping and US import duties are included. For other destinations, local import taxes and duties may apply and are payable by the recipient. Returns are accepted within 30 days.
