A horse caught mid-gallop is one of the most demanding poses a sculptor can attempt in metal — legs extended fore and aft, mane lifting, the entire weight of the animal balanced on a single trailing hoof, all of it frozen in the split second before the next stride lands. This lamp captures exactly that moment, the horse rendered with real energy against a slender rod that rises quietly behind it to carry the light above. Animal-form lamps like this one became something of a signature look in French decorative lighting through the 1970s, with workshops such as Maison Charles leading the way in pairing sculptural bronze and brass figures with lacquered wood bases, so the lamp itself became as much a piece of tabletop sculpture as a source of light. This example follows that same tradition closely, cast in the same spirit though not attributed to Maison Charles itself, made instead by hands working in that popular style with a slightly less refined finish. One can imagine it standing on a gentleman's desk or a bedside table through the decade that produced it, admired first for its movement and only second for its function. Brought into a home today, either as a study lamp or a striking accent on a console, it still carries that same sense of arrested motion.

The lamp has a galloping horse figure cast in brass or bronze, mounted on a rectangular black lacquered wood base. A slender rod rises from behind the horse to support the shade. The bronze/brass shows some visible marks and wear in places, and the lacquered base has small areas of finish loss. The included shade is deformed and in used condition, offered as an accompanying item rather than a feature of the sale — please review all photos carefully, as they accurately represent the piece being sold.

This is offered as a single table lamp.
