This lamp sits in that tradition, in the style of the French sculptor Alain Chervet and the brass workshops of his generation. A fluid, abstract hand-form figure rises in solid cast brass from a black wooden base, the curves polished to hold the light along their length rather than catch it in a single glint — note how the surface stays smooth through every turn of the form, without the tool marks or seams a lesser casting would show, the detail that separates a sculptural lamp from a merely decorative one. The original black lampshade with gold trim sits above it, restrained enough to let the sculpture below carry the piece. Brass, black wood, and gold trim together place it comfortably between Art Deco and Hollywood Regency.
